A tattoo design of an Aztec were-jaguar... the ground surface is both tiles, and also skin - hence the blood...
Done for a guy who is going to get it tattooed on his bicep - I'm looking forward to seeing pics of it when he gets it done =).
Done in inks and acrylic paints on 9"x12" illustration board.

I love this, and what a neat idea about the flesh! I'm not sure if a tattoo artist can replicate this as well as you drew it, but I'd love to see how it turns out as well :)

This is breathtaking.

Beauitful Jaguar, looking forward to seeing the photo if possible too though even if not you've done this big cat a lotta justice :)
Shoki
Wow, I hope they get a tattoo artist who can do this justice.

Oooh nice! I love the design on this one!
Radioactive Chicken
Very striking. I also hope the tattoo artist does this design well.
Donryu
wow...
your knack for attention to detail is wonderful. You even got the Aztec art style right. .... Very well done...

This is just totally awesome, but then again, I'm totally biased. =)

It's very beautiful...but It may be really complicated for an arm tattoo unless it's simplified or a VERY big arm. Its is a great image though

Awesome Aztec theme to this one.
Synnabar
Wow!!!
This is gorgeous! I love Mesoamerican art, and tattoos, and anything with were-jaguars in it.
I am curious - did the guy send you any reference images? I'm interested in the rings on the tail, as they are unusual. And I'm always looking for more were-jaguar images! I have a lot of books, but the more references, the better! :) Thanks!

Thank you =D
And yes - in fact - he sent me a few pieces by you to give me an idea of what he was looking for - one was a pencil sketch from the side, and the other was a full color 3/4 view... very nice work =D. He also sent me some photos of traditional Aztec patterning schemes, as well as a nice photo of a jaguar.
At first, I drew the tail-bracelets larger - more like bangles - but he said they were a little too heavy and wanted the lighter design like the ones that were on your drawings... (I was trying to make it more original ^.^,)
Synnabar
Oh, that's fine! I don't mind at all! That's not why I asked - I'm certainly not the first to draw a were-jaguar - obviously people have been doing it for hundreds of years before me. XD Actually, the reason I asked was because I was hoping he'd found some references from actual Mesoamerican jaguar art with tail-rings; in my (~old~, my goodness!) pics, I tried to be authentic with the overall ornamentation, but added the tail rings (even though I hadn't seen them on authentic pieces) because they're a recurring symbol in my art (why Synnabar the hellcat has them etc.). I was hoping he'd really FOUND an image, sculpture, codex painting, or the like with tail-rings - that would have been a neat coincidence! (same as when I found out that they used "cinnabar" in their art too - I like coincidences :D) Plus, I collect books and images with Olmec, Aztec, Toltec, Mayan etc. art, and I was hoping he'd had some good references I could add to my collection (I'm such an art pig)! ;D But thanks! And I think this will be an awesome tattoo (I am a skin art fan as well). I hope he sends you photos!

Okie ^.^... I get nervous sometimes when I use others' art in my reference material - because I'm afraid I might be too dependent on it and have the resulting work not appear very original...
That would be neat if he'd found examples of actual ancient were-jaguar art - I would have liked to see them - I did a google search on my own - and wasn't able to find any right away (though perhaps a more thorough search may have yielded better results)... I really enjoyed the theme of this commission - and I would like to do more with the were-jaguar and Aztec art (perhaps with a detailed setting) and it would be nice to have a greater wealth of references... I also did a search for some examples of the art from the movie Road to El Dorado - because I remembered the priest who becomes a giant stone jaguar at the end - but the art style was more simplistic than what I was going for (apart from the backgrounds, which are really cool)
Anyways, very glad you like it ^.^! I am also looking forward to seeing photos of the tattoo when he gets it done ^.^. Hopefully I can get his permission to post a photo of that tattoo up here as well ^.^

Hey wow, yeah at first I though this was a synna-kitty piece in the thumbnail. But after looking at it full-sized I was throughly amazed. It's beautiful. There is enough of style difference between your piece and her style that it is definitely noticeable. :)
It is a beautiful piece. *faves*
